The town of Empuriabrava is located on the largest Residential Marina in Europe situated in the Bay of Roses on the Costa Brava close to the Pyrenees and the French Border and forms part of the municipality of Castelló d'Empuries in the province of Girona. Blessed with a typical Mediterranean climate, it is less than a 2 hour flight from the UK, giving access to one of the biggest natural playgrounds for adrenalin enthusiasts. The town is built around a labyrinth of canals making up the Marina. The two Kilometre Beach and Promenade are also prominent features of this unique and beautiful resort. An open air market is held on the seafront every Saturday morning throughout the year.
Activities: Skydive Empuriabrava is one of the worlds Premier Skydiving Centres and caters to all levels from beginner to world champion and is home to the Freefall Company, AFF School and Babylon, Freefly School . There is a Bar / Cafe, swimming pool and tennis courts and it is also well suited to non-skydivers and families alike.
Scuba Diving is also well provided for in Empuriabrava and the waters around the Northern Costa Brava have many dive sites suitable for both experienced and novice divers. There are three Diving schools in the town offering Diver Training and facilities for certified divers.
Many other activities are available centred on the Marina and Beach including: Boat hire, guided sea excursions and a Kitesurf School. The Pyrenees are easily accessible for walking, climbing and mountain biking, also the Ski resorts of Andorra (approximately 2 hours by car) for winter sports. In the heart of the Cap de Creus Natural Reserve, 12 miles by sea, or 13 miles by road is the bay and village of Cadaqués that served as inspiration to the universally renowned artist Salvador Dalí, and to many other artists. It is an ideal excursion by boat on a sunny day, leaving from Empuriabrava.
On both sides of Empuriabrava lie the Parc Natural Del's Aiquamolls. The Aiquamolls (wetlands) is area set aside for nature and cannot be developed on, only farmed and due to its proximity to Empuriabrava make a wonderful area for walking and cycling. Castelló d'Empuries located 5 kilometers from Empuriabrava is a beautiful, quaint medieval village that maintains the atmosphere of it's splendid past. A visit to it's streets, plazas, cathedral, historic roman wash rooms and flour mill is definitely worthwhile. The town of Figueres (18 kms away) is easily accessible by public transport and is home to the Dalí Museum. Other local attractions include the Greek village in Rosas (8 kms away) and Phoenician ruins in Empúries (13 kms away). Close by are the top golf courses of Perelada and Navata. Perelada is also well known for its magnificent castle housing a casino and landscaped gardens, cuisine, summer open air concerts, wine and Cava producers.
